Neuropathic Pain or Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral Neuropathy is a condition that involves the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nervous system includes every nerve that comes from your spinal cord and provides sensation to the rest of the body. There are many causes for peripheral neuropathy including auto-immune diseases, vitamin deficiencies, certain medications, alcoholism, unknown causes and diabetes. When peripheral nerves are damaged they do not function appropriately, which can eventually produce such sensations as numbness, pain, tingling or burning. Since diabetes puts people at a severe risk level for peripheral neuropathy, strict blood sugar control is essential for preventing these diabetes related complications. It is very difficult to treat this pain, but when pharmacologic and traditional non-pharmacologic therapies do not help, here at Wasatch Pain Solutions we employ minimally invasive procedures that help reduce or eliminate this pain all together.
